  • General Statement of Duties:
  • The Summer Counselor is responsible for planning, leading, and implementing day-to-day programs and activities for children in small and large group settings. The Counselor is responsible for the participants’ safety, development, growth, and skill achievement in their assigned group and within the overall program.
  • Essential Responsibilities:
  • Must be able to work the full 6 weeks of camp
  • Take responsibility for the health, well-being, and happiness of all children. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for the safety of the children in your group and their whereabouts at all times
  • Build relationships with participants in your assigned group and provide supervision to all children in the program as needed
  • Teach and assist with playground programs and encourage participation
  • Responsible for all campers in the water, as well as on the beach. Lifeguards have ultimate responsibility on the waterfront.
  • Implement, lead & actively participate in all aspects of the Childs’ day both in small and large group activities, including special events and off-site trips Encourage and creatively motivate all children to participate in all activities ensuring that no child is left out
  • Know, understand and enforce ALL safety and emergency procedures associated with the program and provide and/or assist in first aid as needed
  • Complete accident/incident reports as needed and follow all accident/incident policy & procedures
  • Wear staff t-shirt and proper clothing daily
  • Ensure that the site is kept clean, and organized, and coordinate the use & care of supplies & equipment
  • Identify and respond to behavior issues; communicate to Head Counselor or Parks & Recreation Manager
  • Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports, daily attendance and daily departure.
  • Cooperate with and assist other counselors as needed. Be a team player
  • Refer all parents and guardians as needed to Head Counselor or Parks & Recreation Manager
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to motivate & encourage children of all ages to participate in a group environment.
  • Ability to communicate with children and adults with kindness, respect, and understanding.
  • Ability to complete reports and recordkeeping
  • Highly energetic and motivated individual who engages and leads
  • Minimum Qualifications:
  • 16 years of age or older and pass an employment background check (18 yrs or older) required by the Town
  • Demonstrated experience and a desire to work with children
  • The desire and ability to work in a cooperative, team-oriented atmosphere
  • Enthusiasm, an abundance of energy, sense of humor, patience, self-control and a desire to have fun!
  • Must be available to work Mon-Fri for 6 continuous weeks
  • Stay late or arrive early for staff meetings as needed and attend all staff trainings in late Mid June
  • Possession of current CPR, First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogen, and Concussion Training Certifications or Successful completion of courses given by Oxford Parks & Recreation

Summer Lifeguard

  • General Statement of Duties:
  • The Summer Lifeguard is primarily responsibility is to prevent drowning and other injuries from occurring. Candidates must be able to ensure the safety of patrons by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors. This person will need to be able to solve on-the-job issues by utilizing effective critical thinking and decision-making skills and possess the ability to work with diverse populations. Lifeguards must be able to enforce facility policies and be able to communicate effectively why policies are in place.
  • Essential Responsibilities:
  • Recognize and respond effectively in emergency situations by activating the Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
  • Actively guards and scans the pond area at all times; refrains from socializing while guarding.
  • Communicate and enforce all Foote Road policies and rules in a personable and professional manner.
  • Staff must always wear your swimsuit, Town of Burlington staff shirt, and whistle while on duty.
  • Proper response in a timely manner, includes radio communication to the front desk, building managers, and direct supervisors.
  • Cooperate and communicate professionally with camp staff and campers
  • Record daily participation numbers and complete daily cleaning assignments.
  • Attend and participate in regular in-service trainings.
  • Provide a welcoming environment for all patrons.
  • Document any incidents and/or injuries.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy workspace by performing maintenance duties throughout shifts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must have ability to act calmly and effectively in an emergency situation.
  • Willingness to work as part of a team, with flexibility to do whatever is required.
  • Availability to work the summer season, including nights and weekends, requiring minimal time off, if any.
  • Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must have a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid/CPR/AED certification
  • Ability to deal with public and other staff in a non-confrontational manner
  • Knowledge of water rescue and resuscitation techniques.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
